## How to write it

- **Say one thing you like about working with them**: A small, specific compliment beats 'have a great day' on a card with twenty signatures.
- **Match the tone to how well you know them**: A joke for a close teammate; warm and simple for someone you rarely work with.
- **Celebrate the milestone, not the number**: Skip the age jokes on a big birthday unless you're sure they'll laugh.
- **Keep it short**: On a group card, a line or two each means everyone's note gets read.

## FAQs

### What do you write in a birthday card for a coworker?

Wish them a happy birthday and add one personal touch: thanks for their help, a nod to something you share, or a light joke. One or two sentences is right for a group card.

'Happy birthday! I hope you have a great day and a brilliant year.' Warm, short and safe.

### Is it OK to joke on a coworker's birthday card?
