## How to write it

- **Thank them for their years**: Retirement marks a whole career. Mention how long you've worked together, or something they built.
- **Share a lesson they taught you**: It means a lot to know you made a difference. Name the advice you still use.
- **Look ahead**: Wish them well for whatever comes next: travel, family, hobbies or simply rest.
- **Keep the jokes gentle**: Jokes about age can land badly. Joke about the end of meetings and alarms instead.

## FAQs

### What do you write in a retirement card for a coworker?

Congratulate them, thank them for their years of work or something specific they did, and wish them well for what comes next. Two or three sentences is plenty.

### What's a good short retirement message?

'Happy retirement! Thank you for everything, and enjoy every minute.' Short works well when lots of people are signing.

### Should a retirement card be funny?

A light joke about the end of alarms and meetings suits most people. Avoid jokes about age, and add a sincere line too.

### How do I get everyone to sign, including people who've already left?

A group card online works from one link, so former colleagues can sign from anywhere, without making an account.
